Give Your Burger an Instant Upgrade

Weekends in the summer are for grilling!  I love a great burger, and I’m always looking for new ways to serve them up!  This article in the July/August 2010 issue of Clean Eating Magazine gives a new twist on dressing your favorite burger:

No one likes a dry bun, but traditional condiments can be not-so-nutritious or just plain boring. The solution? New topping ideas that let you create dozens of deliciously clean variations on the classic burger.

Instead of Mayonnaise: Try nonfat Greek-style yogurt.

Instead of Ketchup: Try Salsa.

Instead of American cheese: Try crumbled goat cheese, or pepper-jack cheese to add spice.

Instead of dressing: Try sauteed mushrooms.

Instead of sliced onions: Try caramelized onions.

Instead of tomatoes: Try sliced mango.

Instead of pickles: Try roasted zucchini strips.

Instead of iceberg lettuce: Try radicchio.
