The Most Common Excuse for not Exercising

This is the most common excuse I hear when people tell me why they are not exercising. The truth is you don’t have time NOT to exercise! “Those who do not find time to exercise will have to find time for illness.” – The Earl of Derby

We are all busy.  Most of us get up early to get to work on time.  We work all day, and come home exhausted. By the time we have eaten dinner, cleaned it up and gotten things done around the house, we are just ready for some down time!  If you don’t work outside the home, you are just as exhausted from your full-time job of parenting! I understand!! But did you know that regular exercise helps eliminate stress and exhaustion?

You will actually be able to handle your busy schedule more easily and feel less tired if you exercise!  Check out this article from the NY Times and the University of Georgia.

Let me ask you a few questions. What in your life do you make time for? Do you have a favorite television show that you watch every week? Do you sit while your kids are at ball practice or dance? We all make time for the things in our lives that we think are important. Your health NEEDS to be important to you!

Most of us think a workout entails and hour on the treadmill or three hours lifting weights, but there are easy ways to incorporate exercise into our daily lives. WALK – park farther away at work and at the store. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Walk around the ball field when your kids are at practice. Use your breaks wisely! Break your workout down throughout the day, you don’t have to do it all at once. When you have 10 minutes in the day, do some lunges or pick up those dumbbells.

Another way you can save time is by combination or circuit training.  By combining strength moves, you can cut your workouts in half! Combination moves will also raise your heart rate adding cardio to your workout as well. Do bicep curls while doing walking lunges – shoulder press while you are doing squats – tricep extensions while you are doing side lunges, etc. Be creative with your time and workouts!

I know it is a struggle to force yourself to get up 30 minutes early to get in some exercise, or to give up some tv time in order to get a workout in, but you will feel SO much better if you do! Make your health a priority.  Schedule it just like you would a business meeting or a pediatrician appointment, and don’t break your appointment! All you need is 20 minutes!     You are so right! Exercise does NOT have to take much time at all. Don’t use excuses, just find the time somewhere in your day! Love the quote by the way!
